Flagstaff Mountain elopement in Boulder

Crystal and Merv celebrated their Flagstaff Mountain elopement in Boulder with a small group of about 20 individuals, both family and friends. We ended up going to 4 different locations for their elopement, but all the spots were very close together which made the day relaxing and low key. They wanted 3 things for their elopement: 1. mountain views, 2.a location close to Denver, and 3.no long hikes. So we decided on the Flagstaff Mountain area in Boulder, Colorado. We decided to do portraits at Chautauqua Park and Lost Gulch Overlook. Then the ceremony was held at the Halfway House, with an intimate reception/dinner at the Flagstaff House across the street.

Portraits at Chautauqua Park and Lost Gulch Overlook

Before the ceremony I met Crystal and Merv and their family at Chautauqua Park. This spot can be really busy especially during the summer, but there are still a few spots for portraits that avoid crowds and give a nice backdrop of the flatirons. I brought clear umbrellas just in case of afternoon thunderstorms. We didn’t end up needing them at this point in the day but their daughter who was about 2 had fun playing with them in between photos. Then later in the day after the ceremony we went up to Lost Gulch Overlook which is a little further up Flagstaff Mountain. Because they wanted mountain views we decided to do a few photos here. This location looks out to the mountain range in the west and has some really beautiful views.

The Halfway House is an old historic stone building at the base of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder. This is the spot where Crystal and Merv decided to do their vows. The ceremony site was decorated with a simple setup of floral arrangements and no chairs. There’s a large stone patio just outside the small house which makes this a great spot for elopements or small gatherings. As Crystal and Merv began to say their vows, the rain started. But it ended up being just a light drizzle. Crystal jokingly held her vow book over her head to keep out of the rain. After they wrapped up their vows, friends and family headed across the street to the Flagstaff House restaurant. Crystal, Merv and I went up to Lost Gulch Overlook for a few photos and then met everyone for the reception afterwards.

Reception at the Flagstaff House Restaurant

The Flagstaff House is an excellent restaurant that sits at the base of Flagstaff Mountain. The restaurant has a patio area that wraps around the back of the building and looks out over the City of Boulder. This is a great spot for a small reception or ceremony. They also have a private room with a large table that can serve a small party like Crystal and Merv’s. Plus part of the patio can be easily used for mingling, cocktails and cake cutting during a small reception. It was a pleasure to round off the evening here capturing photos of the Crystal and Merv with the guests as they made some toasts and celebrated together.

Thanks Crystal and Merv
